For a long time it was quiet in the murder case surrounding the murdered furniture packer Stefan M.: On May 31, 2023, the body of the Salzburger was found in his apartment on Gabelsbergerstrasse. Now, more than a year and a half later, Inspector DNA has led to a suspect: the 35-year-old is silent and is in custody.
Police spokesman Hans Wolfgruber confirmed to the Crown that the suspect has been arrested, which took place on January 10: it concerns a man from Salzburg (35) who is already in custody in Puch prison. According to the director, the 35-year-old was questioned about a burglary towards the end of the year and his DNA was also added to the database. “The DNA comparison led to a clue,” Wolfgruber explains. According to information from “Krone”, the man denies any involvement and remains silent about the murder accusation.
Support for the criminals of Salzburg
The criminalists will now focus on determining the course of the crime and the possible motive, Wolfgruber emphasizes. The investigation into the case has been dragging on for more than a year and a half. For support, the Public Prosecution Service also called in the well-known case analyst Thomas Müller, who wrote an extensive report on the murder case. The judiciary also sent a request for legal assistance to the American company Meta (Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook) to obtain valuable information to clarify the case.
According to the medical examiner’s office, serious bodily injury, i.e. blunt force, resulted in the victim’s death. Family members found Stefan M. dead in his apartment on the third floor of a high-rise building. The victim’s mother and partner are represented by attorney Stefan Rieder of the White Ring Victim Protection Association.
