A 38-year-old Chechen man is in the normal ward of Kepler University Hospital in Linz after he was shot. The unknown shooter was able to go into hiding for the time being. The reason is said to have been a dispute within the drug community. Detectives have now arrested a suspect.
Shots in the street! At 11 a.m. on Tuesday, a dispute escalated between two men sitting in a BMW X5 in the Neue Heimat district of Linz. The shot driver, a seriously injured 38-year-old Chechen, was given first aid by eyewitnesses before being taken to MedCampus III of Kepler University Hospital with gunshot wounds in the shoulder. The father of five children is being treated there in the normal department.
Slim and black pistol
The unknown perpetrator was the first to go into hiding despite an immediate search alarm and the deployment of the police helicopter. The search was on for a 50 to 60 year old man, 1.75 meters tall, half bald and wearing a gray sweater. Police said he was slim and used a black handgun.
Alibi is checked
There was little information from the detectives, but it eventually emerged that a suspect was arrested thanks to witness statements. It is still unclear whether this is actually the perpetrator or whether this can be proven. His alibi is currently being checked.
It is believed the two men got into an argument over drug dealing. “The investigation is continuing at full speed,” the Upper Austrian State Police Directorate said on Wednesday.
The opening of an apartment in Neue Heimat on Tuesday by heavily armed police officers is said to have no connection with the shooting.
