Safety measure – The school grounds are now monitored with 13 cameras

Date:

As reported, researchers are currently concerned about a series of burglaries in schools and kindergartens. Annoying thieves were also after the Diesterweg school in Linz in December. No fewer than four burglaries are said to have taken place during Advent. Before this, the educational institution already made the news twice in 2024.

Early this year, shots were fired at the school building one evening and students and teachers had to sit in classrooms with bullet holes. A new security concept was subsequently developed and the possibility of installing a security fence and an electric sliding gate was discussed.

First shots, then floods
At the end of September, the following disaster occurred: At night, unknown perpetrators broke into the school through a door that had probably been opened during school hours to clog the sinks with toilet paper, causing an entire floor to be flooded. The malice caused costs of approximately 400,000 euros. At the time, the reigning SP city vice-chairman Dietmar Prammer, who is responsible for school maintenance, and FP security council member Michael Raml discussed further action with the school management, the police and experts from the magistrate during a local inspection.

“It’s sad that you have to take such measures”
When Raml asked what the status was, he said: “The video surveillance technology will be delivered in January. After installation, no fewer than 13 cameras film the entrances to the school grounds and not the public space. It is actually sad that such measures have to be taken, but this measure was essential. Surveillance has a preventive effect and helps solve such crimes.”
