A paralyzed Spaniard has been awarded large damages because he had a 30-hour erection and was not properly treated by doctors. The 36-year-old was sent home from hospital twice despite his suffering.
The paralyzed man first came to the emergency room of Ontinyent Hospital on July 5, 2020, when he already had an erection that lasted six hours. After a physical examination and a blood test, he was released – the GP was told to continue to monitor his condition, it was said.
The patient had to go to the emergency room three times
When the erection still persisted after 20 hours, he went to the hospital again. After drainage this decreased somewhat and the man was released. But the treatment apparently wasn’t enough: the 36-year-old had to go to the emergency room for a third time after his condition worsened.
Two operations followed in which a previously inserted penile prosthesis had to be removed. He is still suffering the consequences of this incident – since then he has suffered from pain and erectile dysfunction, as Europa Press reported.
Woman also receives compensation
After the case was investigated by the Legal Council Consell Jurídic Consultiu, the patient should now receive compensation due to the late treatment by a specialist and an incorrect diagnosis. He was awarded 49,000 euros, which the regional Ministry of Health must pay. The woman will also receive compensation of 5,000 euros for the moral damage she has suffered.
