Angry winter sports enthusiasts have responded to the article “Krone” about the exorbitant increase in parking fees in a Tyrolean ski touring area. Which is particularly exciting and adds extra explosiveness to the debate: only locals have to dig so deeply into their pockets, tourists pay nothing!
As reported, in the popular touring region of Praxmar and Lüsens (municipality of St. Sigmund, Innsbruck-Land district), the daily parking rate was increased from five to eight euros on December 1.
The landowner wanted even more
Decisive for the increase of no less than 60 percent: One of the landowners who rented the parking lot to the municipality of St. Sigmund was no longer satisfied with the five euros and therefore canceled the lease. “He even wanted more than eight euros, so there was a compromise,” says Mayor Anton Schiffmann.
What makes local winter sports enthusiasts doubly angry in this context is that guests with a guest card pay nothing for parking. This exception is seen as an insult by many locals. “And this at a time when local rates have been abolished,” says an outraged reader.
In addition to winter sports enthusiasts, the tenants of the Gleirschalm in St. Sigmund are also suffering. The Alm is a very popular destination for tobogganers, especially for those with small children, as the stop can be reached in about 30 minutes. You now also have to pay a parking fee of eight euros for the mini trip. Because staggered rates are not available. Many people are thinking about an alternative destination.
The landlady waved the mayor away
“I wanted a solution from the mayor. “But he just said that I should be happy that the compensation did not amount to ten euros,” the landlady said angrily in an interview with the “Krone”.
Cross-country skiing season ticket price increased by 25 percent!
Let’s move from the Sellraintal to the Achensee area (Schwaz district). At the parking lot in the Karwendeldalen in Pertisau (municipality of Eben), a day ticket for parking also costs eight euros. However, billing is done on an hourly basis. This arrangement has been in place for a long time.
Cross-country skiers will have to dig deep into their pockets this winter. The municipality of Eben, which operates the cross-country ski trails in Pertisau, has increased the price of the season ticket from 80 to 100 euros. The season ticket, which also includes parking, went from 120 to 150 euros. That means an increase of no less than 25 percent! “This increase leaves inflation far behind,” a “Krone” reader cannot believe.
14 euros for locals, but only ten for guests
Keyword “cross-country skiing”: In Seefeld (Innsbruck-Land district), the cross-country skiing rate also distinguishes between local residents and tourists with a guest card. While Tyroleans have to pay 14 euros for a day ticket, tourists get off noticeably cheaper at 10 euros.
