Kremlin bewildered – Did Ukraine kill Russian citizens in Kursk?

Date:

Moscow believes Ukrainian forces killed at least seven civilians in the village of Russkoye Porechnoye in Sudzha province during their occupation of the Kursk region.

The Central Investigative Committee in Moscow said the residents were found dead in the basement of an apartment building. Authorities spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko called it a “terrorist act against the peaceful population.” Those responsible would be held accountable.

Moscow state media previously published video footage from a basement in which Russian soldiers pointed to victims. Also on display are the bodies of elderly people who had been shot with signs of torture and their hands tied. The authenticity of the partially unrecognizable recordings and the information provided by the authorities could not be independently verified. There was initially no response from the Ukrainian side to the Russian accusations.

“Cannibalistic massacre”
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the incident was a gross violation of international humanitarian law. “These atrocities are further proof of the terrorist and neo-Nazi spirit of the Kiev regime, which in its vicious military and political impotence has committed yet another cannibalistic massacre of the civilian population despite the defeats at the front. Zakharova said. At the same time, she accused the West of being responsible for supplying the “regime” in Kiev with weapons and money.

The Russians must feel what war means
In early August, Ukrainian troops invaded the neighboring Russian region of Kursk and occupied dozens of towns there. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this would make Russians feel what war meant.

He also wants to improve his position for possible negotiations with Moscow by occupying Russian territories. Russia recently announced that it had recaptured 60 percent of the occupied towns in Kursk.
