The case caused outrage across the country a few days before Christmas: in order to receive social assistance, a young refugee had to take a German course. Politicians have been seeing training and learning the German language as a condition for support for some time.
However: the small German class on the WIFI in Steyr had a woman as a trainer – which the refugee rejected. Those responsible did not know what else to do and exchanged the female teacher for a man – which is not an isolated incident. Politicians do not want to let this stand and are now tightening the reins.
