Summary of the most important news that eitb.eus will publish today.
These are the topics that will be central main headlines from next Wednesday January 22, 2025:
– Strike in education: Today the cycle of twelve calls for strikes in Basque public education begins with the teachers’ strike. On the occasion of this first strike, teachers from Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa will demonstrate this Wednesday in Bilbao, from 11:30 am, from the headquarters of the Basque government to the Arriaga Theater. The Basque government has introduced minimum services that unions describe as abusive. The teaching staff will also be in action again on January 23 and February 26 and 27.
– Closure of Guardian in Llodio: The multinational Guardian Glass will close its factory in Llodio (Álava) in June and lay off its 171 employees. The company now claims that there has been “a fault” in one of the ovens and that it is “impossible to repair”. According to the multinational, this collapse led to the extinction of the ERE. The Basque government assures that it will intensify discussions with the company to try to maintain its activities.
– Omnibus decision: The Congress of Deputies will vote on three economic decrees this Wednesday, with Junts as unknown. All eyes are on the omnibus decree, which includes an increase in pensions, support for public transport, the increase of the Interprofessional Minimum Wage or assistance for those affected by DANA. As for the decree that aims to expand taxation on energy companies, it will not be ratified because Junts and PNV – in addition to the PP – have already expressed their opposition to it. The third decree, which concerns pension reform, has the support of the PP in principle, so the Junts’ vote would not be decisive in this case.
