In Riefensberg (Vorarlberg), several injured sheep and one dead sheep were found in a meadow at the beginning of January. The animals were missing their ears. Research has now shown that the injuries were caused by a fox attack.
At the beginning of January, two seriously injured sheep and one dead sheep were found in a meadow in Riefensberg. Two animals had their ears cut off and one animal had facial cuts. Both the owner and police then suspected that the attack may have been animal cruelty and an investigation was launched. On the same day, a medical officer conducted a local inspection and took samples for laboratory testing.
But now it is clear: the results of the study came in on Wednesday. The analyzes showed that in all three affected sheep – the dead animal and the two injured ones – fox DNA was found at the edges of the wounds. The initial suspicion of animal abuse has therefore not been confirmed. It has been proven that the injuries to the sheep are of animal origin, the police explain.
Extremely sharp teeth
A fox’s teeth are so sharp that wounds can look as if they were inflicted with a knife, officials said.
