On the eighth floor: Steyr woman rescued from apartment after fire

Date:

Why was the bank on fire and what exploded? Police experts are not yet sure why a fire raged on the eighth floor of an 11-storey apartment building in Steyr from which a woman had to be rescued. But it’s clear where it burned.

On Thursday morning, neighbors raised the alarm: there was a burning smell in the high-rise building in the Resthof district of Steyr and explosions could be heard. The neighbors called 122 and informed the fire brigade’s emergency center that someone else might be in the apartment on the eighth floor.

Two fire engines rushed to the scene and the fire brigade apartment was quickly identified. And: There was someone else inside.

Several floors evacuated
Firefighters evacuated the eighth floor and floors above of the 11-story building before the respiratory protection team forcibly opened the apartment door. Although there was no longer a fireplace, the entire apartment was heavily covered in soot. And there was a burned couch in the living room.

Tenant out of danger
The Floriani disciples also discovered the resident and rescued her outside, where the Red Cross was waiting. This brought the woman from Styria to the hospital with suspected smoke poisoning. However, it is not said that the condition is critical.

No clear cause
It is still unclear why the bank burned. Police experts were unable to draw a clear conclusion on Thursday. But it could be possible that a forgotten cigarette was the trigger.
