The next bad drama took place in Vienna-Donaustadt on Thursday: an eleven-year-old girl is said to have stayed in the shallow water on the shore of a swimming lake and slipped. She died shortly after, despite prompt help.
When the girl slipped into the shallows shortly after 1 p.m., she may have entered deeper water and drowned, emergency services said. The girl was probably a non-swimmer.
All help came too late
Divers from the Vienna Fire Brigade got the girl out of the water after a few minutes. For the 11-year-old, however, all help came too late. Despite using a helicopter, she died during the rescue operation.
Fatal accident on the Danube
On Wednesday evening, another fatal accident occurred in Vienna, in which a father tried to save his five-year-old son from the Danube and died himself during the rescue operation. Although he was found by rescue divers, he died during the mission.
