Four men, including the driver, are under investigation after 53 migrants died in an overheated truck in Texas. He pretended to be a survivor.
After the discovery of dozens of dead migrants – most of them women – in a truck in Texas, US authorities have launched an investigation into four suspects. The federal prosecutor responsible for West Texas said the driver of the truck had been arrested, among other things.
Homero Zamorano of Pasadena is accused of human trafficking resulting in death. If convicted, the 45-year-old could face life in prison or even the death penalty, prosecutors say.
According to authorities, Zamorano can be seen on CCTV footage at a border crossing between Mexico and the US as the driver of the truck. When the 18-wheel trailer was discovered Monday in the San Antonio area, it first tried to hide in the bushes.
When the police discovered him, he even wanted to pretend to be a survivor. A police officer also told the San Antonio Express-News newspaper that the man was under the influence of the drug crystal meth and was “very high.”

Christian Martinez (28) were also arrested, who had been in contact with the driver, and two other men who were seen at the address where the truck was registered. They are in any case charged with illegal possession of weapons.
