The company’s management had initially decided to close the oven on February 3. Next Monday, the works council will raise the possibility of calling an indefinite strike with employees on the 30th. In addition, the works council organized a demonstration at the entrance of the factory on the 29th.
The works council of Protective glass has received a statement from management bringing forward the closure of the oven to Wednesday the 29th, the staff representation of the plant in Llodio (Álava) said in a short statement. The company’s management had initially decided to close the oven February 3.
Consequently, the workers’ representatives will propose to bring forward the indefinite strike to the 30th at 00:00, taking into account the legal deadlines. Therefore, a meeting will be organized on the 29th at the entrance of the factory from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. o’clock.
The works council of the Alava factory will submit a proposal next Monday to the working population the opportunity to call that strike, which will probably be supported by the workers.
The indefinite strike is “one of the instruments that will be put on the table” for the staff, who will have to speak out in a meeting on Monday about the various options that the committee will present to them.
Union sources have confirmed that the “roadmap” will be released next Monday, in response to management’s announcement to shut down the plant’s oven on January 29 and then switch it over at a date yet to be determined until the closure of the factory.
Worker representatives have expressed fears that closing the blast furnace could accelerate deadlines for the final closure of the plant, which was initially planned for within six months.
