Second prisoner exchange as Israel continues to attack the West Bank

This Saturday is expected to mark the second exchange of Israeli and Palestinian prisoners since the ceasefire that began in Gaza only last Sunday, when Hamas released three women and Israel 90 Palestinians.

That day, the release of the hostages by Hamas took place in the afternoon, while the release of the Palestinian prisoners by Israeli authorities took place in the early hours of Monday in a town near Ramallah.

According to Sanad news agency, 120 of those released will be Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment, while another 80 will be prisoners with other high sentences.

In addition, the Palestinian resistance organization Hamas hopes to provide Israel with the list of living and dead prisoners still in the Gaza Stripas confirmed to EFE by a member of the Islamic organization’s political bureau.

This Hamas source has assured that “if the agreement is implemented without any problems” (the prisoner-for-prisoner exchange), they will hand over the list to the Israeli authorities.

The list will be used to determine how many Palestinian prisoners will be released in the coming weeks in the various prisoner-for-hostage exchanges, as the value of the hostages varies depending on their status.

The Israeli Prison Service will in turn release Palestinian prisoners in Ramallah (Occupied West Bank) and at the border of Kerem Shalom in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian prisoners will initially be transferred to the Israeli prisons of Ofer (near Jerusalem) and Ktziot (south of Gaza), where they will be identified by Red Cross representatives and wait for the Israeli prisoners to be released.

Family members of Israeli prisoners in the hands of the Palestinian resistance, the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked not to give in to pressure from their far-right partners and to respect all phases of the ceasefire.

The Hostage Families Forum, the main organization around which the detainees’ relatives gather, has indicated that the resumption of attacks “will be a death sentence” for those who cannot be released.

Today, relatives blocked the main access road to the city of Tel Aviv, from where they displayed banners denouncing the fragile situation of the agreement, Israeli media said.

Israeli attacks on the West Bank
