“Destabilizing” – Biden Wants To Anchor Abortion Laws Across The Country

Biden criticized the US Supreme Court’s abortion decision as “outrageous” and “destabilizing” — and he called on American citizens to vote in November’s congressional election, even if they believed the decision was a mistake. That’s the only way to change that.

There is currently no federal law in the United States that allows or prohibits abortion. Until now, abortions have been allowed until the fetus is viable – around the 24th week. This has so far been assured by a 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling known as Roe v. Wade (Roe vs. Wade). Another 1992 judgment strengthened and slightly modified the case law.

However, the Supreme Court overturned those decisions a few days ago, paving the way for tougher abortion laws — even outright bans. In about half of the US states, abortion is now likely to be severely restricted or banned altogether.

Biden has already announced that he will do everything he can to ensure that women have access to abortions. However, his options are limited. “We need to enshrine Roe v. Wade in law. And we can only do that if Congress votes for it,” Biden said. .”

The filibuster is a more than 100-year-old ordinance that states that many bills require 60 out of 100 senators to agree to an end to debate before even a vote in the congressional room.
