A deadline for the withdrawal of Israeli troops in southern Lebanon expired on Sunday. There were already tensions. At least 11 people were killed by Israeli shelling, the Lebanese Health Ministry said.
Annainians had tried to return to their hometown in the south. However, Israeli troops are still stationed there. According to the recordings, people came with car parades, yellow flags of the Hezbollah and car parades with portraits of the Hisbollah boss Hassan Nasrallah murdered.
“We are determined to enter our villages – at any cost,” a woman named Fatima said on the DPA news agency. A man named Mohammed said his family had the right to enter their own home. “You should have been left. They are residents and this is our land,” a man named Ali said of the Israeli army.
At first there were no reports of larger battles. According to Lebanese information, at least eleven people, including a soldier, died from Israeli shelling. 83 others were injured. Israel’s army spoke of warning shots as suspects approached. Several people were arrested and interrogated.
Return not yet possible
Conditions in the country would not yet allow residents to return, said special coordinator Jeanine Hennis-Plaschaert. According to eyewitnesses, the Israeli army is now trying to keep people away from the affected places and asks for patience.
Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun said: “I share the joy of the people of the south over the triumph of justice and call on them and rely on the (Lebanese) Armed Forces.” as agreed to be possible. She would accompany residents on their return.
