It should have been an ordinary surf day by the sea. But this Florida family hadn’t expected that: suddenly they found themselves in the middle of a group of manatees – with unexpected consequences.
It was just going to be a fun 4th of July surf trip on Fort Pierce Bay that Lisa Blais planned with her twin sons.
But the trip was not only beautiful, but also an unforgettable adventure for her family. As Blair points out in a video on Facebook that has since been shared around the world, her two boys, Evan and Logan, had exceptional playmates that day, but that scared them at first.
“It was cool”
Two manatees, also known as manatees, suddenly appeared and began to swim around the boys, although the boys, a little scared, tried to avoid them. Blais’ husband then filmed one of the manatees approaching son Evan trying to “steal” his surfboard.
“I was a little scared because she was so big. But she put her nose on my board. I kind of got rid of him,” Evan said afterwards. “And then she put her fin on my board and I got off my board because she put her fin on it. After I went down, another manatee was below me. That was really cool because I’d never seen a manatee before,” says Evan.
The two boys were glad there were no sharks. Especially since they celebrated their 11th birthday the next day.
