Have you noticed it too? Entering an address into the Google search field will still show information about it – and a map section that will immediately highlight the property. However, lately when you click on it, nothing happens. This disrupts many people’s usual Google usage habits and causes criticism. But it’s not Google’s fault at all…
Under pressure from the EU, the American internet company had to adjust a number of functions in its search engine to comply with the regulations of the ‘Digital Markets Act’ (DMA). One of the EU’s demands was that Google could no longer give its services preferential treatment in searches – and this also includes the mapping service Maps. To ensure that it no longer has an unfair competitive advantage, it should not be included as prominently and easily in search results as before. Users see part of the map, but it is no longer clickable. Google Maps must be opened separately. If this annoys you, there is a trick you can use to restore normal functionality.
