In Austria there has been an unusually mild winter weather in recent days. The temperatures reached 16 to 18 degrees Celsius in some places. Record values were also reached in Spain. The coastal city of Valencia even experienced the most popular January day on Monday for more than 150 years!
According to the National Weather Office, the thermometer climbed to 26.9 degrees Celsius and therefore until the highest January since the start of the records in 1869. The previous record came from January 22, 2018, then 26.6 degrees.
Heat waves are increasingly common
Westwind currently provides exceptionally hot temperatures on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. Some areas experienced the hottest Jännnacht since the start of the records from Sunday to Monday. Spain has been chased by longer, more violent and more common heat waves for several years.
