“The Kossei camp was brought back to Chadical Army today,” said the spokesperson for the French General Staff, Guillaume Vernet, on Thursday. The general staff of the Chadical Army said: “The return of the basic Sergente Adij Kossei in N’Djamena finally ended the French presence in the Chad.”
The transfer in an official ceremony must be completed on Friday. The staff and the fighting equipment were moved to France, only containers remain on the spot, which according to Vernet must be reduced by private service providers on the Land- en Zeepad.
Sahel Zone: From 5000 soldiers to 0
The Chad ended the defense agreement with France at the end of November surprisingly. On December 26, Paris handed a first army base to the Chad. The country was the last in the Sahel zone in which French troops were still stationed. At the end of November 2022, 5000 French soldiers were still stationed in connection with an international military operation against Islamic groups in the region.
