According to her party, FPÖ MP Petra Steger was exposed to a threatening situation on Thursday evening. At an event organized by the FPÖ in Vienna-Meidling, two people – a man and a woman – tried to remove a PVV flag with a knife. Steger filmed the situation, after which the woman tried to take her mobile phone.
Steger had just spoken to FPÖ Meidling deputy district chairperson Sabrina Czompo when a man and woman were discussing removing an FPÖ flag. The woman would have opened her bag and pulled a knife, with which the man would cut the flag.
When the woman noticed that Steger was filming the situation, she is said to have tried to take Steger’s mobile phone with the knife in one hand. Two men are said to have calmed the woman down and left the restaurant where the event took place with her. On the way out, the woman allegedly threatened Steger.
FPÖ has filed a complaint
No one was injured, but a complaint had been lodged, according to the PVV. Petra Steger is happy that nothing more has happened: “I appeal to dissenters about politics to return to a nonviolent political discourse.”
Viennese FPÖ leader Dominik Nepp condemned the attack and also sees political opponents responsible for it: “The radicalization of the left in Vienna is worrying. I hope that these violent criminals are quickly caught and punished,” said Nepp, who expects all parties to in Vienna will condemn the attack.
