Mercedes-Benz management in Vitoria-Gasteiz has convened the works council next Tuesday with a view to resuming negotiations on the agreement, Euskadi Irratia reported.
The Vitoria management has convened workers’ representatives on the eve of the meeting that Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will hold with the leaders of the multinational company in Germany.
The two sides held their last meeting two weeks ago. Management then warned that they would not sit down as long as the strike calls were maintained, but apparently it has changed its position and arranged a new appointment.
The negotiations will take place one day before the Basque government’s visit to Germany and the next day of the strike.
a new strike day forced the factory to stop production on Thursday for the third time in the past week. The strike, like the one last Wednesday and June 22, was followed by 95% of the workforce, according to unions’ estimates.
On Wednesday, thousands of people took part in the manifestation in support of the factory workers, during the second day of the strike called by the ELA, LAB and ESK unions, which also paralyzed production at the factory.
