On Monday, a 55-year-old paragliding pilot fell from a height of about 50 meters in the Brandnertal. The man suffered serious injuries in the collision on steep terrain.
At around 12.25 pm, the highly experienced paraglider started his flight from the mountain station of the Gulmabahn towards the city center of Brand. While the pilot was circling at an altitude of about 50 meters, his glider suddenly collapsed – probably the cause was a thermal bubble.
Due to the turbulence, the 55-year-old pilot quickly lost altitude and eventually crashed. In the collision on steep terrain, he broke two vertebrae and also suffered a fracture to his right thigh. After initial treatment by the mountain rescuers who arrived on the scene, the seriously injured man was flown to Feldkirch State Hospital with the emergency medical helicopter “Gallus 2”.
