Ready in the spring – After the flood: Wiener Get Bathing Beach Back

Date:

Due to the devastating flood in September 2024, the new Arena beach in Kaisermühlenbucht was completely destroyed – now the city has restored the sandy beach by around 20,000 euros.

The last flooding event mid -September 2024 had a huge impact on the entire city. The Vienna River turned into a furious stream, public transport was massively struck by flooding. But the Danube island, with its 21 kilometers long and about 210 meters wide and the new Danube as a auxiliary clot worked perfectly as a Danube flood protection. There were no significant damage. Nevertheless, there were a few problems.

Some areas were destroyed by the water masses – including the Popular Arena Beach, the Pirat Bay or the Bathing Beach of the family.

For the new season, the areas are now thoroughly cleaned and the top layer of sand is exchanged. According to the Mon 45 (Viennese waters), these are routine work, so that they are available again for all Viennese with the first warm spring days. Also for hygienic reasons. With the large part of the Arena beach of 1100 square meters, the work costs between 10,000 and 20,000 euros, according to an initial estimate.

“Our goal is to guarantee attractive and free water access for everyone and to offer a wide range of open spaces,” says “Krone” request. The second part of the new Pier 22 – formerly Sunken City – is currently being designed. Part 1 was a real Crowd Puller last summer.
