‘Strong work’ – Ukraine intercepted Russia’s ‘silver bullet’ six times

Date:

Ukraine reported that Russia fired six of its Kinzhal missiles, which it labeled “silver bullets”, into its territory – but all could have been intercepted. Until recently, this was considered impossible due to the high speed of the projectiles. A total of 18 missiles of various types and six Iranian-type kamikaze drones were defused on Tuesday evening.

The missiles were fired by Russian MiG-31K fighter jets, Ukrainian army commander-in-chief Valeriy Zalushnyi said on Tuesday. Air defenses were able to intercept them all, as well as Iranian-type Shahed-136/131 drones.

The missiles included nine calibers fired from warships on the Black Sea, Zalushnyj said. Three Russian reconnaissance drones could also be destroyed. U.S. Ambassador Bridget A. Brink praised Ukraine’s anti-aircraft defenses for “hard work” on social media. The density of the blows was described as very high.

First launch of the Kinzhal rocket in early May
In early May, Ukraine reported for the first time that a Kinzhal missile could be intercepted by the US Patriot air defense system – this is denied by Russia, but confirmed by the US Department of Defense. The Kinshah missiles are extremely fast and fly very high, while still being maneuverable. Russia likes to use them to destroy fuel and weapons depots.

Rocket debris rained down on the metropolis in several places in the capital Kiev, for example in a zoo. Cars were damaged and an empty building caught fire, it was reported. However, according to authorities, no injuries were reported.

Klitschko recommends a visit to the zoo
Kiev mayor Vitali Klitschko added that no animals were injured in the zoo either: “There was no fire,” he reported. However, green spaces were damaged and branches that had fallen from trees had to be removed. Nevertheless, the zoo is open to visitors: “So relax and support the residents of the Kiev zoo!”
