A Beaver family helped in the Czech Republic unplanned to breathe new life into a stream – and therefore saves the country a lot of money and work.
The rodents had built a dam on the Klabava River and created a swamp area, said the head of the BRDY Landscape Protection Park, Bohumil Fiser, according to the CTK agency. The former military training area BRDY is located approximately 50 kilometers southwest of Prague.
Where the beavers have built their dam, the Klabava flows past a large fishing pond through an artificially created channel. For years, nature conservationists, water management, municipalities and forestry companies had discussed whether and how the river could be restored to its natural run. But the animals have just made a short work.
Large savings thanks to Beaver Construction
A beaver was able to build in one night, for which people need a week with an excavator, Fiser was enthusiastic on Czech television CT. People must first obtain permits, wait for decisions about water legislation and collect financing. Fiser estimated the savings from the Beaver building to the equivalent of a maximum of 1.2 million euros.
The useful Beaver family in the BRDY Landscape Protection Park consists of the parents and two generations of young animals. At the beginning of the 19th century, the European Bever in the Czech Republic was considered eradicated. It was only at the end of the 20th century that beavers ran out of the surrounding countries again. The population is now estimated at around 15,000 animals.
