A spectacular fire broke out in a stable building in Bad Gleichenberg in Styria on Thursday. It wasn’t until the flames were already blazing wildly around them that a passing truck driver noticed the inferno.
The man did not hesitate for a moment and immediately called the fire brigade around 3.40 pm. 120 emergency services from 11 fire brigades eventually had to turn out to fight the metre-high flames. The spectacular large-scale operation demanded a lot from the firefighters. For hours they tried to save what could still be saved.
Burnt to the ground
But eventually the barn, which was filled with straw, hay and deposits, burned to the ground. The rapid intervention of the emergency services prevented the flames from spreading to the adjacent residential building. “Brand out” was finally announced just before 10pm. No one was injured in the accident.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by officials from the Styrian State Criminal Police Office. The extent of the damage is not yet known.
