A lawsuit by climate activists against the British oil and natural gas group after lifting a historical judgment last year ended for the Hoch-oriented in the Netherlands. At the end of 2024, the civil court of The Hague rejected a claim of climate protection officers and ruled that the group does not have to drastically reduce the co -emissions.
In 2021, Civil Judges Shell had committed itself to an extensive CO₂ reduction-45 percent less than in 2019. And it was also about indirect emissions, namely those of suppliers and customers. The lawsuit was submitted in the Netherlands because Shell also had a place in The Hague at the time of the court case. The climate process attracted attention worldwide.
Shell is confident
In the second case, it was only said that the oil company had to work for climate protection. However, the judges have rejected the company to oblige the company to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The environmental activists want to achieve this for the highest authority, the high advice. It is not yet known when it will be decided.
Shell is confident. “We are convinced that we will also get rights of the high advice,” said the Dutch Shell boss Frans Everts on Wednesday the RadioStation NOS.
