Almost 90,000 Austrians suffer from schizophrenia

One of the hundred people in Austria sick with schizophrenia in the course of his life. This mental illness usually emerges in young adulthood. Modern antipsychotics with a deposit effect enable patients to adhere to their therapy without having to take tablets daily. There are a total of 90,000 affected people in Austria.

  • Schizophrenia usually appears in young maturity for the first time. Reality and fiction fade in the serious mental illness, your own ego is experienced as foreign, perception is distorted and thinking changes.
  • Every day is often seen as a conspiracy and threat. Wahn ideas, fears for persecution, hallucinations and fear are typical symptoms.

According to the psychiatrist and neurologist Georg PSAA, long -term predictions and quality of life can be considerably improved by modern drugs.

A lack of insight into the disease or delusions often leads to the rejection of medication.

“This is always a big problem. In the case of depot preparations, however, the daily decision to take the medication or not, and therefore also the daily confrontation with ‘sick’, Psaa said.
