In Breitenbrunn on the Neusiedler See in Burgenland, a large reed area has been on fire since Saturday morning. Five barrages and two air police helicopters fought the flames.
Shortly after two o’clock in the morning, the alarm came in at the fire service: In Breitenbrunn, a large area of reed caught fire for an initially unknown reason. First the local fire brigade came out, after which the comrades from Purbach, Donnerskirchen, Winden and St. Margarethen received the alarm around five o’clock. In total, about 60 comrades are currently deployed.
Since the seat of the fire itself is not accessible to the Florianis, the helpers can only limit themselves to preventing the flames from spreading.
Police helicopter wanted
In addition, an air traffic police helicopter was requested. The modern H135 helicopter fights the fire by dropping water from the sky. Later, a second air police machine was called in to provide support.
It is unclear at this time what caused the fire. However, the locals suspect a lightning strike: “People don’t even get there.”
