Heavy rainfall hit the Italian region of Tuscany on Thursday evening. The island of Elba and the southern part of Tuscany, the Maremma, were mainly affected. However, according to experts there is not all – the bad weather must also stop on Friday.
The port city of Portoferraio on the island of Elba was flooded. Dozens of people were brought to safety by rescue teams. Three people were saved after they were caught by the water mass in their houses.
Another 28 people were saved, who reported in cars along the Hoofdstraat in Portoferraio Media. The rescue teams called on the citizens not to leave their homes, and the inhabitants of other communities on the island not to go to Portoferraio – because the most important excursions to the largest city on the island were under water and are not accessible.
The municipality of Portoferraio warns of “extremely critical situation”
