An American weather host was super cool and right when he learned that his children’s lives could be in danger during a tornado warning that was broadcast live on the air. Inwardly “he was shaking”, he later admitted.
First come the kids: NBC Washington chief meteorologist Doug Kammerer interrupted his own weather forecast on Thursday to call his kids and give them a live warning of a potential tornado.
During the broadcast, Kammerer zoomed in on a map intended to show the path of the tornado in Maryland, USA, and found that his home was hit. “He’s coming right over my house,” he explained, and he could see him typing on his cell phone without getting excited.
“Gaming Online” and “Not Noticing”
The meteorologist reached out to his son Scott and instructed him live in the sky: “There’s a tornado warning. I just want to make sure you and Cally get down there ASAP, okay?”
He added emphatically, “Go straight to that bedroom there and wait 10 to 15 minutes. Please, do that now, okay? Thank you, my boy.”
He went on to explain to his viewers, “I had to warn my kids because I don’t know what they’re doing. They’re probably gambling online and aren’t even aware of it.”
“Triggered Inside”
Kammerer later tweeted that his kids were home alone and he was absolutely sure they wouldn’t watch and notice the tornado warning. Even if you didn’t look at him, inside he was “paniced”.
In another tweet, he wrote: “As I spoke about the tornado warning and zoomed in on street level, I saw it pass very close to my house and I knew I had to warn my kids. Mom wasn’t home at the time. You are safe, thank goodness! Thanks for the concern everyone.”
