The inspector of the German navy, vice-admiral Jan Christian Kaack, sees the cut telecommunications and power cables in the Baltic Sea in the Baltic Sea.
“These are clear provocations that always pose the risk of escalating,” Kaack told the news magazine “Spiegel”. In recent months, the cases of damaged set of set cable in the Baltic Sea had increased. “Even the accumulation of these incidents speaks to coincidences,” he said.
Sanding anchor as the cause unrealistic
The highest ranking of the German navy emphasized that the explanation of a accidentally reduced anchor, which calls many ship coves as the reason for the damaged cables, was unrealistic. You can see when an anchor grows over the seabed. The knife roughly as “as if a combat tank would ride the Osnabrück market”.
In his evaluation of events, Kaack did not go so far that he mentioned Russia as the most important suspect. “Above all, I look at who uses the actions,” said the Vice -Admiral. It is clear to him what the purpose of the damaged cables under water is: “We have been tested, you want to unleash our society.”

Kaack supported the increased presence of NATO in the region. That alone has a frightening effect. “Anyone who sees that one or even more warships will be confronted with them can abandon his campaign,” said Kaack.
NATO strengthens her patrols
Since the beginning of the Russian aggression war against Ukraine in February 2022, important telecommunications and power cables have been damaged several times in the Baltic Sea. NATO had therefore announced raised patrols.
With warships, reconnaissance aircraft, satellites and drones, the Defense Alliance wants to follow the sea area as part of the “Baltic Sentry” mission (see video above).
