The crew had to leave a damaged wooden boat and save themselves on rocks in the river. There the quartet waited for the emergency services.
A 62-year-old boatswain from Stadl-Paura was driving on the Traun on Saturday afternoon with two women and a man with a wooden plank. About a kilometer after the pick-up point in Roitham, below the Kemating power station in the municipality of Stadl-Paura, the boat hit a rock due to the strong current. The result: the slab filled with water and stood vertically in the river.
Stored on rocks
Fortunately, the four people on board were able to escape to the rocks jutting out of the river. From there it was not possible for them to swim to shore because of the dangerously strong current. So the quartet had to hold out until it was rescued.
rapids
“There are extreme rapids there,” emphasizes FF operations manager Christopher Brandstötter. The Stadl-Paura and Windern volunteer fire brigades, the Laakirchen water rescue service and three police patrols came to the rescue. It was possible to land the four people unharmed and secure the boat. The plate was subsequently recovered.
