Thousands of people joined the Basque Country and Catalonia this Saturday through an immense line of light to demand loud and clear, the right to rule over peoples 430 kilometers they separate Jaizkibel (Gipuzkoa) from Cap de Creus (Girona); the Pyrenees join these two points, and thousands and thousands of Catalans and Basques have climbed more than 300 peaks of the mountain range to form a chain of lights during the first hour of Saturday night using flashlights and special street lighting.

The Vía Pirenaica was the first organized mobilization jointly by Basque and Catalan social entities In concrete terms, this challenge was organized by Gure EskuANC Assemblea Nacional Catalana, Òmnium Cultural, Artistes per la República and FEEC Federació d’Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya, and have assured that this is the beginning of a long-term cooperation

The whole Pyrenean mountains are lit up at nightfall, after which the organizers have committed a political act in the Guils-Fontanera Nordic ski resort in Catalonia. there the spokesperson for Gure Esku Amalur lvarez has stated that “by joining the Basque and Catalan forces, we have been able to relieve the whole Pyrenees, and if we continue to work together and join forces, we will be able to promote our common goalsIn this sense, Álvarez has assured that they demonstrate the strength of the people; “every light on the mountain is a star that road to freedom and the sovereignty of our peoples,” he said.

He has also spoken Dolors Feliu, president of the ANC: “It is the largest artistic action of a political nature ever projected in Europe. A poetic and political story that intertwines activism and artistic creation, will live in memory

With this spectacular mobilization, the organizers wanted to draw the attention of the international community to demand the self-determination of peoples. “In Catalonia and the Basque Country, we want to full sovereigntyIvarez, for his part, demanded that “the democratic will of our peoples be respected”, adding that the Via Pirenaica also claims “a democratic vision” of borders: “The borders must be decided democratically by voting and not by imposition, force or war”.

Feliu, for his part, has denounced “The repression and use of anti-democratic means” which seek to prevent the realization of the democratic will and which implies the violation of civil, political, economic and cultural rights by the Spanish State.

The organizers of this massive mobilization have made it clear that while the action is “a huge success”, they must… keep moving to achieve their common goals. “We will not rest until we achieve a free and sovereign future for our peoples,” concluded Gure Esku’s spokeswoman.
