The passengers of an Airbus A380 of airline Emirates narrowly missed a major catastrophe on Friday. Because it was only after landing in Australia – after a 13-hour flight from Dubai – that technicians discovered a gaping hole in the fuselage of the passenger plane. The cause of the damage is still under investigation.
The hole was discovered in the lid and in the main landing gear, into which it retracts after takeoff (also see tweet below). In Brisbane, where the large passenger plane is being repaired after an appraisal, the cause of the damage is now being investigated. It is stated on social media that the crew must have known what happened. Finally, before landing in Brisbane, they notified the tower that rescue and emergency services should be made available for safety after a flat tire during takeoff.
The industry blog “Aviation Herald” also features a post from a suspected passenger on board the flight. He reports a “loud bang” as food and drinks were distributed. As a result, the catering was stopped at short notice and the pilots were called. But greater panic did not break out, as the plane continued to fly normally.
Emirates keep their lips together
According to reports, it could actually be one or more ripening bursts. However, a loosened bolt of the nose wheel could also have become a projectile. Another blog post on avherald.com mentions a warning signal to pilots that the tire pressure is too low. There were no further warnings, it is said.
The airline spoke to Welt. the only of an unspecified “technical error”. The safety of passengers and crew always has the highest priority, it was stated.
