According to Ukrainian sources, Russian troops have invaded Lysychansk. “In the Donetsk region, the occupiers are concentrating on consolidating their positions in the cities of Lysychansk and Verkhnyokamyanka,” the Ukrainian General Staff said on Sunday. The Ukrainian military governor of Luhansk, Serhiy Hajdaj, also confirmed this.
The pro-Russian separatists had already announced on Saturday that they would take Lysychansk, but Kiev replied that the strategically important city was still under its own management. Lysychansk was the last major Ukrainian-controlled place in the Luhansk region after the fall of Sieverodonetsk.
According to the General Staff report, there were also Russian attacks in the direction of Kharkov and Sloviansk. Russian attacks were repulsed in both directions.
Combat Operations Continue
The fighting continues towards Bakhmut, an important transport hub in the Donetsk region. The same goes for Spartak, a suburb of Donetsk that Russian troops are trying to storm.
In southern Ukraine, the settlement of Ivanivka, which had been captured by Ukrainian troops in the Kherson region the day before, was subjected to heavy Russian air raids. In addition, the Mykolaiv region would be shelled by rockets.
