7 meter high waves – Extreme Rower drove to the Cycloon: Saved

Date:

A rower from Lithuania came in need for a crossing in the Pacific because of a violent cyclone off the Australian coast – only a few days before his planned arrival in Queensland. The athlete was confronted with seven -meter -high waves and had to drop an emergency signal.

In the meantime, Aurima’s Mockus was saved by a ship from the Australian Navy, said the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).

After the extreme athlete had sent an emergency signal over the Korallensee at the end of last week because of the “Alfred” Wervelstorm, a rescue operation with aircraft and the naval ship “HMAS Choules” was initiated. Although he could not be established during the weekend, he managed to contact the exhausted rower.

Mockus was played in Zeil in San Diego in California and wanted to row 12,000 kilometers to Brisbane on the Australian east coast. The project now only ended about 700 kilometers off the Australian coast. “Alfred” wipes over the region with gusts of wind up to 130 kilometers per hour and meter -high waves.

The first crossing of the Pacific ended in the same way
“The solo regulator is stored and is safe on board the HMAS Choules, where it is being examined medically,” quoted the monkey vice -Miral Justin Jones News Agency. The ship was now on its way to Sydney.

The first person who only rowed and without a stopover over the Pacific was the Brit Peter Bird in 1982-1983. With this version he is also in the Guinness Book of Records. After 294 days at sea near the Great Barrier Reef, Bird was also in need about 50 kilometers from the mainland and saved by the Australian Marine. Because of the proximity of the mainland, his company was seen as a success by the Sports Guards and the Ocean Rowing Society.
