Order for Putin – Bosnian Serbs provoked with parades

Date:

The leadership of the Serb part of Bosnia has organized unconstitutional paramilitary parades. This could lead to tensions between Serbia and Bosnia.

About 2,000 paramilitaries, security forces and Republic of Serbia (RS) officials marched in eastern Sarajevo on Monday for RS President Milorad Dodik and his guests. The parade was part of the celebration of the so-called RS Day and has been banned in the past by the Bosnian Constitutional Court. The background to the celebration is the establishment of the Bosnian Serb Republic on January 9, 1992. However, it went back to the convicted war criminal Radovan Karadzic with the support of the rest of Yugoslavia. In the war that followed, the military committed genocide, massacres and expelled the Bosnian and Croat population.

Dodik for separation
For several years now, Dodik has been striving to split off the RS of Bosnia, which consists of the Serbian Republic and the Bosnian Croat Federation (FBiH). The march was therefore a provocation to the majority Bosnian population in Sarajevo, which had been brutally besieged for more than three years during the war.

On the other hand, Dodik spoke of a “republic of peace and freedom” during a parade. In addition to him, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dadic and Danilo Vucic, the son of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, also took part. It was only on Sunday that Dodik awarded the Order of the RS to Russian President Vladimir Putin in his absence. Dodik, who is repeatedly received by Putin, said he would personally present the medal later.

US Embassy: “Wisp of Independence”
Criticism of the parade and Dodik’s secession policy came from the US Embassy in Sarajevo. “The Republic of Serbia will destroy itself and those around it only by chasing the will-o’-the-wisps of independence,” it said on Twitter.
