The NASA room probe “Voyager 1” recently exceeded the symbolic brand of 25 billion kilometers away from the earth. This stems from the current Tracker data, which are published live on the website of the US Room Trip Authority.
The data indicates practically in real time how far the probe that started from the earth on 5 September 1977, on September 5, 1977, has already begun, making the speed in space and how long your radio signal takes to the earth.
Radio signals need more than 23 hours for the earth
Due to the enormous distance, the radio signals of the probe are now more than 23 hours, 12 minutes and 40 seconds on the road. The somewhat slower flying “Voyager 2” – which had started two months before “Voyager 1”, but a little more flies – is currently almost 20.8 billion kilometers away from the earth and thanks to the previous start, the longest continuously operated probe in space history.
Although almost half a century has passed since the beginning of “Voyager 1”, four (the original eleven, note) scientific instruments on board are still in function and transfer to earth. However, the age of the probe is becoming increasingly noticeable. In recent years there have been a number of incidents with the spacecraft. In the last incident so far, NASA even lost contact with her for some time.
The next milestone for “Voyager 1” will be a distance of a light day (that is 25.9 billion kilometers). That will be in January 2027 – almost fifty after your start. It is expected that the probe will still be functional at the moment, even if the engineers probably have to eliminate some of the four remaining scientific instruments because the generators of the radio -Isotopes will then be exhausted.
Probe racet since 1977 through space
“Voyager 1” (traveler 1) was launched on September 5, 1977, the twins “Voyager 2” had been on August 20. With almost 61,200 kilometers per hour, they race through the room. With a distance of more than 25 billion kilometers (from 20 February) to our earth, “Voyager 1” is the most distant messenger of humanity.
After 35 years of flight time, the probe passed the boundary of our Solo system in August 2012, the so -driven heliopause, and had pushed the interstellar space.
In the extremely improbable case that a foreign civilization should combat the earthly ambassador, the “Voyager” branch wears a copper sound record covered with gold with the title “Laute of the Earth” and a turntable with instructions for use with which the sound carrier (see above) can be played.
