Tragedy of accidents in Niklasdorf, Obersyria: a Styrian and his partner took a shortcut on the tracks and were admitted by a train. In this area, different people had to leave their lives in a similar way. Even a fence could not prevent the new drama.
Already on the last Saturday there were two dramatic deaths in the area of the station in Niklasdorf, Obertyria, who initially made suicide. There was a lot of speculation on social media. However, since the styric police now communicate after extensive investigations, including witness surveys and an autopsy of the corpses, it was a tragic accident. A 49-year-old local and his 59-year-old partner from the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district were admitted and killed by an approaching train shortly before 10.30 pm. Both died at the scene of the accident.
Danger was underestimated
According to the police, the pair was on foot on the way home of a carnival party and apparently wanted to take a shortcut across the railway tracks to the federal road. “Both should not have recognized the danger of their actions,” says the directorate of the State Police. In Niklasdorf, horror is great after the dramatic deaths, for example in the local sports club, where the 49-year-old was active and known.
It is not the first thing that such an accident is on railway tracks in Niklasdorf. Several people were already killed, tragic, especially young people who wanted to take an abbreviation on the train tracks on their way home from a disco in the immediate vicinity. In the summer of 2023, a 22-year-old was admitted and killed by a train.
The ÖBB responded some time ago and insured the traces with fences in the corresponding area. The crashed couple may have found an opening or even climbed the fence.
