Date:

From Paris to Istanbul: On International Women’s Day, hundreds of thousands of people worldwide went on the street for women’s rights. In eastern Ukraine, countless demonstrators made a minute of silence in honor of the women who were killed against the Russian invasion of defense of the country.

In Mexico, where according to UNS on average ten women are killed a day, thousands are demonstrated in the capital Mexico City. In Venezuela, around 150 protesters gathered in the capital of Caraca. For fear of suppressing the security forces, most of them covered their faces. Among other things, they called for the release of political prisoners, who are recorded by the government of President Nicolás Maduro.

200 arrests in Istanbul
In Istanbul, according to the organizers on Saturday evening, more than 3000 women went peacefully through the city center under strict safety measures. Many demonstrators wore purple clothing and waved banners with slogans like “we don’t leave ourselves silent, we are not afraid and we will not obey” and “Long live our feminist tight”.

The LGBTQ activist Cigdem Özdemir said that she wanted to make our fight visible with her participation to defend our lives against male violence to defend our place in society and our rights. ” Since the Turkish government 2025, the ‘Year of the Family’ declared, his women ‘bound to the house’, the psychologist complained. LGBTQ people like they would also be “criminalized”.

Later the organizers reported more than 200 arrests by the police. On recordings that you have released, you can see how police officers can be felt against different demonstrators and pull them out of the crowd.

In Iran, however, the women’s rights activist Narges Mohammadi turned to the audience with a message spread in online media, in which she, as usual, did not wear the headscarf in Iran. “I am convinced that the Islamic Republic, even if it survives every war, will not survive the resistance of women,” said the activist, who was temporarily released out of custody for health reasons.
