“The presidential delegation has been shot at in the village of La Laguna de Jacaltenango, Huehuetenango,” the reporters said.
Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei was unharmed in a shooting on his entourage on Saturday as he passed through a village in the northwestern department of Huehuetenango, a local radio station said.
“The presidential delegation has been shot at in the village of La Laguna de Jacaltenango, Huehuetenango,” they told the radio station Sonora es la Noticia, adding that “there are injuries, but President Alejandro Giammattei is unharmed and safe.”
However, the presidency has not reported on this fact and journalists from the state news agency who accompanied the president on that work trip explained to Efe that they are well and that they are going back to the capital.
“We are doing well and we went to the first activity,” said journalist Brenda Larios, who covered the president in La Laguna.
In that place, Giammattei and his Minister of Agriculture, José Ángel López, took part in an activity to encourage small producers and entrepreneurs to publicize and market their articles.
“In Huehuetenango, local products are promoted to support the small producer,” the official said.
