Always ready! – Top launch for Rapid Reaction Forces unit

Date:

Demos and help for colleagues: Rapid Reaction Forces (SRK) are always ready! This first record since September 1, 2021 is more than impressive: 1,313 arrests, 19,593 identity checks, participation in 2285 priority actions and 14,484 reports.

In addition, 475 evictions have been issued and initial police investigations into criminal offenses have been conducted in 465 cases – the new Rapid Reaction Forces (SRK) police unit appears to be delivering on its promises.

After the terrible night of terror in Vienna, the SRK unit of the federal police was launched as important support for the regular patrol service and for special tasks. “The rapid reaction forces are a modern complement between patrol service and special forces, for which Austria enjoys international recognition,” Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said.

Example: WEGA and Standby Squads
The SRK troops are recruited from officers from the Rapid Intervention Groups (SIG) and the Police Standby Units (BE). Based on the model of the Vienna police unit WEGA for sensitive cases and the riot police that have been successful in the federal capital for more than ten years, these two units have been derived in an adapted form for all other federal states in the SRK form.

Karner continued, “The initial assessment of the new unit clearly demonstrates the importance and necessity of this investment in modern policing.”
