Serious accident Sunday evening in Birkfeld in Eastern Styria: A 28-year-old man came off the road and collided with another car. The family’s father suffered fatal injuries in the crash, and his six-year-old daughter suffered life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the second car were also seriously injured. Three rescue helicopters were deployed.
At about 7 p.m., the 28-year-old man from the Weiz district was driving his car from Birkfeld towards Anger. His seven-year-old daughter was in the passenger seat. For unknown reasons, the East Styrian left the road on the right, hit a retaining wall and ended up in oncoming traffic due to the impact.
Deadly Collision
At the same time, a 52-year-old woman from Weizer drove her car towards Birkfeld. Her 16-year-old son was in the passenger seat. The two vehicles collided head-on, with fatal consequences.
Father dies, daughter seriously injured
Despite attempts at CPR, the 28-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. The six-year-old daughter was flown to the LKH Graz by the rescue helicopter “Christophorus 17” with life-threatening injuries. The 52-year-old and 16-year-old were seriously injured in the collision. They too had to be taken to the University Hospital in Graz by rescue helicopters “Christophorus 12” and “C16”.
The fire brigade Koglhof and Birkfeld were deployed with 65 men and three and a half.
