After taking the former city of Lysychansk in eastern Ukraine, Russian troops are already advancing towards the next target. The metropolitan area around Slowyansk must be conquered. Apart from that, according to Ukrainian information, there are currently no significant troop movements.
“Towards Slovzyansk, the Russians are trying to gain control over the villages of Bohorodychne, Dolyna and Masanivka,” the Ukrainian General Staff said on Monday. These three cities are located less than 20 kilometers north and northeast of Sloviansk. The Russian army is also said to have crossed the river into the region from the east. According to the situation report, the soldiers would try to push the Ukrainian troops back to a new defense line between Siwersk, Soledar and Bakhmut. These three cities are located about 30 to 40 kilometers east of the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, the headquarters of the Ukrainian army in Donbass.
No significant movements around Kharkiv
In other front sections, for example in the north around the city of Kharkov and in the south in the Black Sea regions, despite heavy artillery fighting, Russian troops are currently making little progress. The information could not be independently verified.
As reported, Russia only stated on Sunday that it had taken the city of Lyssychansk after weeks of fighting. Ukraine confirmed in the evening that its troops would withdraw there. According to the governor of the region, Serhij Hajdaj, only a few thousand people live in the city. Before the start of the war there were more than 100,000. 60 percent of the houses and 90 percent of the infrastructure have been destroyed.
