Thomassen has released more details about the victims. The three deceased are two 17-year-old Danish citizens and a 47-year-old man of Russian nationality living in Denmark. Among the four injured are two Danes and two Swedes, including a 16-year-old teenager, according to Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has described the event as a “cruel attack” and has called on the population to stay united and offer support, Berlingske newspaper reported. “It’s incomprehensible, heartbreaking, meaningless. Our beautiful and safe capital has changed in a split second,” said Frederiksen, thanking the security forces, medical personnel and all those who helped.
