New AI system from Google can control robots

Date:

The American internet group Google has presented two new variants of its AI system Gemini, which should lay the foundation for a whole new generation of useful robots. Machines must think spatial thinking with the help of AI and flexibly with their environment.

The first AI model is called Gemini Robotics. It ensures that the system not only produces texts, images or videos, but can also arrange actions of a robot. The second model bears the addition “he” (“embodied reasoning”, German: “embodied logic”). It expands the spatial thinking of Google Gemini.

Smart
Gemini Robotics-er can develop completely new skills in no time, according to a blog post from Google. “If a coffee cup is shown to the AI model, it can intuitively choose a suitable handle with two fingers to lift the cup on the handle and calculate a movement order to safely approach it.”

The AI specialists of the internet group on Google DeepMind work together with the Texas Robot Start-up Apptronik to build AI-controlled humanoid robots that can work efficiently and safely in dynamic environments. Apptronik has already developed several robot models, including the humanoid robot “Apollo”, which is designed for tasks such as lifting, moving and stacking in logistics and production.

Three basic properties
Google’s blog entry makes useful and useful for people, AI models needed three essential characteristics for robotics: firstly, they must be general to adapt to different situations. Secondly, they should be interactive to understand instructions or changes in their environment and to be able to respond quickly. And third, they have to be smart and do things that people can usually do with their hands and fingers, such as manipulating objects. “Gemini -Robotics means an essential boost in all three areas and brings us closer to real all robots.”

In the blog post, Google illustrates the performance of the new AI system in different videos. Gemini -Robotics can, for example, sort objects in ships on calls while they go through the room. Another example shows the robot how it folds an origami.

Google also offers testers its robot AI. This included the robot specialists Agile Robots, Agility Robots, Boston Dynamics and Enchanted Tools.

Built -in security
The research project also includes security. The physical security of robots and the people in their region has long been a fundamental concern about robotics. It is initially a matter of avoiding collisions with traditional security measures. Gemini Robotics-er can be connected to these safety-critical controls. The AI model can also be understood whether a potential measure is safe in a certain context or not, and relevant reactions.
