Since the ban – opium prices in Afghanistan have become ten times

Date:

In Afghanistan, the price of opium is ten times since the ban on Poppy seed cultivation. The strong price increase could miss the fight against drug trafficking in the country.

Moreover, according to UN, the opiate shares were estimated at a total of 13,200 tons at the end of 2022 – enough to cover the demand for Afghan opiates by 2027 and to continue to trade.

Afghanistan has long been the most important country of origin for the heroin raw material Opium, which is obtained from bed days. After the Islamic Taliban had banned and harvested the cultivation of Mohn in 2022, global opium production collapsed considerably.

690 euros pro kilo
However, increased prices ensured that the opium trade in the country remains profitable. According to the UN report, one kilo of opium last year cost $ 750 (around 690 euros). In 2022 the price was still $ 75 per kilo of opium.
