Despite the new source world, the rare earths of China remain dependent on rare earths

Date:

US President Donald Trump wants to dismantle them in Ukraine or Greenland and thus break the dominance of China: rare earths needed for e-car batteries, artificial intelligence and also modern weapon systems. However, according to experts, dependence on China will remain long.

The main reason is currently low world market prices for rare earths. “All companies that are currently promoting or processing rare earth report economic problems,” says Harald Elsner, co -author of the study of the German raw material agency (DERA).

This complicates the development of new action in other countries. Moreover, the necessary infrastructure outside of China is often lacking the necessary infrastructure for dismantling and processing the substances.

Trump looks at prevention in Greenland
According to the experts, this should be a reason for Trump’s interest in Greenland. According to the information, the island has the world’s greatest deposits of heavy rare earths. So far, however, they have not been financed. A rare earth project in Greenland, supported by China, came to a halt after the government had banned the promotion of Uranium in 2021.

Elsner hopes great hope for an event in Australia. Several companies would have announced that they want to win difficult earth of Australian ores, directly in Australia or in Malaysia or in the US.

The question will increase
For example, the demand for rare earths used for e-car batteries and wind turbines must increase considerably in the future.

The experts see this particularly critical in the so -called difficult rare earths, which are not only used in car roof, but also in the American arms industry. These would still come from China 100 percent, would be dismantled there or at least refined.
